Emily Lois Trent Collier

• Jan 11, 2020 at 11:41 AM

Emily Lois Trent Collier was born in Flag Pond, Virginia on September 6, 1919, and she departed this life on January 9, 2020, at the age of 100 years, 4 months, and 3 days.

Lois was saved at an early age and joined Shuler’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.  When the church merged with Cadet Church in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, she became a member there and she was their oldest member, being faithful to the end.  She attended the funeral of her best friend, Lillie Akens, at the church 18 days before her passing.

In November, 1938, Lois married James E. Collier, Jr., who proceeded her in death on June 16, 2000.  She was a kind and compassionate lady who loved all of her family members, her church families, and all of God’s creation.  Lois enjoyed quilting, gardening and making floral arrangements for the graves of her family members.  She fought a good fight, finished her course and kept the faith.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lois was preceded in death by her sons, Donald Ray Collier and James E. Collier, III; daughter, Wanda Lynn Bell; granddaughter, Emily Collier; brothers; Lee and Leonard Trent; sister, Muzeta Trent; half-brother, Tom Robinette; and half-sister, Ruby Johnston.

Those left to cherish Lois’ memory are her daughter, Martha June (Burnice) Sybert; sons, Randy Collier and Starlin (Cindy) Collier; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; “adopted daughter”, Carolyn Browder; and a great many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 13, 2020, in the chapel with Elder Oscar Irvin and Elder John Banks officiating.

A Graveside Service will follow at Robinette Cemetery in Blackwater, Virginia.  Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cadet Primitive Baptist Church, 1716 Dawson Avenue West, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219 (care of Vickie Jones), or to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful nurses at Holston Valley Medical Center for their outstanding care of Mrs. Collier.
