WISE — The Virginia Dental Foundation will bring its 20th annual Mission of Mercy free dental clinic to UVa-Wise’s David J. Prior Convocation Center July 12-13.

Foundation spokesperson Tara Quinn said this year’s clinic will have more than 400 dentists, professionals and volunteers available to serve patients from across the region with preventative, restorative and oral surgical care.

For its first 18 years, the Mission of Mercy Clinic operated as part of the annual Remote Area Medical Clinic in Wise County. In 2018, the Virginia Dental Foundation started operating the clinic at the Convocation Center to provide more comfort for patients.

The clinic will operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. In addition to dental care, volunteers will provide health education and counseling services and soft foods for patients.

In addition to the VDF, the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and the Virginia Dental Association help support the Mission of Mercy each year.

Quinn said that overnight parking before each day of the event will not be available on the UVa-Wise campus.
