ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in connection with a 2016 drunk driving head-on collision was sentenced to eight years Thursday in Hawkins County Criminal Court.

Jeffery Dylan Jones, 21, 875 Hickory Cove Road, Rogersville, will be eligible for parole after serving 30 percent of his sentence.

The crash occurred on the night of May 31, 2016 on Highway 11-W on the far west end of Rogersville.

According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Beth Henegar, 43, of Rogersville was driving a 2002 Saturn west on 11-W.

An eastbound 1994 Chevy pickup driven by Jones allegedly crossed the center line near the Jackson Road intersection and struck Henegar’s vehicle head-on.

The pickup flipped onto its roof, and the Saturn came to rest in the eastbound lanes.

Henegar suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Her dog, which was riding with her in the car, was also killed, according to reports.

Henegar was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Jones, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was listed as “injured” in the THP report. He was listed in good condition the next day at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Police reportedly recovered numerous empty beer cans from Jones’ vehicle, and the THP report indicated that investigators suspected that he had been drinking.
