The Health Wagon is coordinating with local health care providers, local health departments’ medical staff and students from East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine to provide health assessments, physical exams and a range of medical services, according to Health Wagon Executive Director Teresa Tyson.
TIMES AND LOCATIONS
The Wise County fair will be on March 6, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Zion Family Ministries in Wise. The Dickenson County event will be March 7 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at EnerVest at Happy Valley in Clintwood.
BLOOD TESTING AVAILABLE
In addition to physical exams, people attending the fair can get blood testing for cholesterol, glucose and A1C readings. If needed, other lab work will be performed.
Pap smears and breast exams will be given, and mobile mammography exams are available by appointment. Ultrasound exams are also available by appointment, and pulmonologist Dr. Joe Smiddy will be giving chest X-rays.
Other services available at the fair include: sports physicals, blood pressure checks, hearing tests and vision screening, colorectal and bone density screenings, ankle brachial testing, prostate and testicular exams, pulmonary function testing, smoking cessation education, medication review, depression screening and stress management.
In addition to booths offering a variety of health information, Tyson stated, people can get assistance with new Medicaid enrollment. Those seeking Medicaid enrollment help need to bring proof of income and the names and Social Security numbers of all household members.
BLOOD WORK INFORMATION
Anyone seeking blood work should not eat or drink after midnight before visiting the fair.
