SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Tuesday it will transfer 169 missionaries out of Nicaragua.

The LDS Church said it will move over half of the 327 missionaries serving in Nicaragua due to “growing political instability” in the country, according to a press release from church spokesperson Daniel Woodruff.

Those being moved include 37 missionaries from the Nicaragua Managua North Mission, all of whom will return to their homes. Twenty missionaries in the Nicaragua Managua South Mission will be sent home while the remaining 112 missionaries will be reassigned to missions in North America.

The remaining 158 missionaries in the country will be moved to areas “that are safe,” according to the release.
