A $5 registration fee is required for EACH barrel requested on the registration form. Registration deadline is July 9. Registration fees are non-refundable. Same day registrations, cash only, will be accepted based on barrel availability. All proceeds go to support the many programs of Keep Kingsport Beautiful. Registration forms are available at the Fun Fest store, 400 Clinchfield St., and www.funfest.net.
Participants should bring all painting supplies, including spray paint, water-based paint, brushes, stencils, etc. The event’s rain date is July 11.
Adults and children of all ages are invited to decorate trash barrels that will be used during Fun Fest, as well as at more than 100 events held throughout Kingsport each year. Painters are invited to paint their own original designs, along with themes that encourage recycling, litter prevention and litter-free Fun Fest events.
One winner will be selected out of each age group. Age groups include: 5 and under; 6-8 years old; 9-11 years old; 12-7 years old; 18 and over; Family, Special Friends and Best Overall/Terry Light Memorial Award.
The winners will be invited to attend the Fun Fest Sponsors Breakfast, where the winning barrels will be displayed.
“Domtar is a longtime supporter of Keep Kingsport Beautiful, and they have been donating the barrels for several years. Their sponsorship of the Trash Barrel Paint-In is a perfect fit for both organizations.” said Robin Cleary, director of Keep Kingsport Beautiful.
Face painting also will be available, and Miss Kingsport will be on hand, along with Festus.
The event will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. All barrels to be judged must be completed by 11:30 a.m.
Trashbusters volunteers needed
Keep Kingsport Beautiful and sponsor AEP Appalachian Power are looking for volunteers to serve as Trashbusters during Fun Fest, July 13-21.
If you want to receive free admission to Casting Crowns, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo or The Avett Brothers — and get a free Fun Fest T-shirt, all you need to do is sign up to be a Fun Fest Trashbuster. Become a part of this decades-long community tradition and you’ll receive free admission to one of the Sunset Concert Series shows. All you have to do (besides sign up) is work two events, with one being the concert of your choice.
“AEP Appalachian Power has sponsored the Trashbuster program for over a decade, and KKB is very proud of this valued partnership,” Cleary said. “Trashbusters are dedicated volunteers who patrol the festival areas setting a good example for everyone attending by maintaining litter-free grounds and encouraging Fun Festers to be responsible for their own trash and to recycle whenever possible. Recycling containers will be available throughout the grounds of The Taste. Keep Kingsport Beautiful’s goal during Fun Fest is to ensure that festival events remain litter-free.”
Trashbuster event schedules and registration forms may be picked up at the Fun Fest Store in the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce building, 400 Clinchfield St., or found at FunFest.net. Complete your form and return to the Fun Fest Store, fax to (423) 392-8834 or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
