When will The Blake be ready in Kingsport?

KINGSPORT – The Blake is a record-setting assisted living property, and it’s not even open yet.

Alabama-based Quality Senior Living (QSL) reports The Blake has the most deposits ever upon opening in the company’s history.

A certificate of occupancy for the 110,000-square-foot property is expected at the end of May. A state inspection is expected in early June with residents to begin moving in afterwards.

Developers have $21 million invested in the property that has 118 apartments – 70 in assisted living and 48 for its memory care community. The development is creating between 80-100 jobs.

“Assisted living is currently full but we are accepting wait list reservations,” QSL spokeswoman Caroline Barry said. “We do have limited availability for memory care.”

The Blake’s typical client, said Executive Director Nicole Briggs, is someone who wants to enjoy their retirement.

“They don’t have to have that care load at this point to get them to resort-style living,” Briggs noted. “When they do need the care, they can stay in the same apartment while receiving those services.”

The Blake will have an on-site chef to prepare three meals a day, 24-hour nurses, a piano bar and lounge, coffee shop and ice cream parlor, and adult activities.

The facility will also have a van or bus to drive residents to off-site activities.

Monthly expenses for a unit at The Blake will be about $2,975. “We’re comparable to other assisted living facilities in the area,” Briggs noted.
